At Rail Trusts Equipment, you’ll work with people who have a unique perspective on the business. We started out at the bottom, in the “scrap” business. We gained invaluable experience literally taking apart locomotives and equipment with our own hands. This has given us invaluable experience in evaluating equipment, from the wheels up. We know firsthand virtually every part of every type of equipment. And we put that specialized knowledge to work in every transaction we make.
Keith A. Gibbs, President
Keith Gibbs began his railroad career in 1972 with the Jacksonville Port Authority railroad track crew. Two years later, he became a switchman with the Municipal Docks Railway, moving to Seaboard Coastline Railroad when the SCL assumed operations of the railway.
In March of 1975, Mr. Gibbs began doing contract locomotive inspections for Naporano Iron & Metal Company of Newark, New Jersey. Naporano was one of the country’s leading suppliers of used locomotives, freight cars and related parts, purchasing thousands of railcars and hundreds of locomotives each year for scrap and resale to the railroad and marine industry. Shortly after that, he became a full-time inspector of rail, freight cars and locomotives. Two years later, he was promoted to the position of manager of locomotive sales of the Naporano Railroad Division, where he had the additional responsibilities of locomotive sales, leasing, maintenance of lease units, locomotive-dismantling operations, advertising and purchasing.
Mr. Gibbs’ desire to relocate his family to the Jacksonville area led to the formation of Gibbs Railway Equipment, Inc. in April of 1980. This company sold locomotives, freight cars and their related components to the railroad and marine industries.
In 1992, Mr. Gibbs formed Rail Trusts Equipment in response to the demand for a professional freight-car and locomotive consulting firm. With a keen sense of anticipation, Mr. Gibbs saw the need for comprehensive railroad-equipment consulting services coupled with ongoing, and therefore up-to-date, sales and lease experience. As president of the company, Mr. Gibbs focused on providing expert equipment advice to banks, leasing companies and shippers in addition to the railroads.
Mr. Gibbs and his wife Diane have three children and live in Jacksonville.
Gilbert L. Gibbs, Vice President, Marketing and Sales
Prior to his career in the railroad industry, Gil Gibbs worked for Corbel & Co. a computer-based legal-services firm located in Jacksonville. He joined that company in 1978 in a clerical capacity but was soon promoted, eventually becoming executive assistant to the president in 1983.
In 1985, Mr. Gibbs began his railroad career as a sales associate for Jacksonville-based Gibbs Railway Equipment, selling and leasing locomotives and locomotive parts to the rail and marine industries. Two years later, he was promoted to vice president of sales, developing and expanding the services of the company to include the sale and lease of freight cars to railroads and rail shippers nationwide.
In August of 1992, Mr. Gibbs joined Rail Trusts Equipment as its vice president. His primary responsibility was the development of freight-car consulting services in addition to the sale and leasing of locomotives and freight cars. Since that time, he has initiated a successful program of “packaging” equipment-lease transactions to banks and leasing companies for his customers. Mr. Gibbs works with a wide range of clients ranging from financial and steel companies to shippers who utilize intermodal railcars, containers and piggy-back trailers. Under his leadership, sales have increased steadily each year.
Born and raised in Jacksonville, Mr. Gibbs is married and has two children. He and his family live in Jacksonville Beach, where he is active in his church and community.
